Why Zion Well?

Zion Well is an inclusive community of wellness. No matter where you are on your journey, at Zion, you belong. We chose the name “zion” because we loved the cross cultural meanings often depicting a place of peace, harmony, and spiritual significance. We provide tools in yoga, meditation and breathwork so that you can create a personal zion within yourself.

Our Values: Sustainability, Inclusivity, Education, Purpose, Service

Husband + wife team Art and Aubrey Schupbach opened the first Zion Well location in June of 2019 in Ypsilanti MI. From the beginning, their dream was to create a community built on the ethical principles of yoga that was also accessible and inclusive.

Throughout the pandemic the physical location was closed for a total of 9 months. During that time they launched an online video platform, Zion Video, with over 300 on demand videos (still growing). This also sparked the beginning of the virtual option for all Zion Well classes which still remains today. At the end of 2020 they held their first yoga teacher training and have hosted 8 trainings since.

In 2021, Zion began hosting wellness retreats as a way to connect more deeply with their community and nature. Some of the places they have ventured so far include: Zion National Park, Joshua Tree, Iceland, Boulder Colorado, North Carolina, Hocking Hills Ohio, Costa Rica and Douglas, MI.

In an effort to create greater access to these impactful tools, Ann Arbor Zion Well was opened in February of 2023.

Our Values Expanded

  • Sustainability at Zion Well extends beyond environmental consciousness; it encompasses the preservation of mental health as well. We believe that true wellness encompasses both the health of the planet and the well-being of individuals.

For us, this means promoting practices that not only minimize our ecological footprint but also nurture mental/emotional resilience of our instructors and clients.

The earth is suffering and it is no secret that humans are suffering. All of our retreats strive to bring human back in balance with nature. Ultimately connecting back to earth is connecting back to oneself.

All yoga props used at Zion Well are sustainable and or use eco friendly materials.

  • Inclusivity is not just a value; it's the cornerstone of everything we do. We believe that wellness should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances. Our commitment to inclusivity means creating a welcoming and supportive environment where all individuals feel respected, valued, and empowered to participate fully.

We prioritize inclusivity in our offerings by hosting a variety of classes across many skill levels, providing ample modifications and by focusing on alignment of yourself over perfection in the pose. From our language and imagery to the accessibility of our facilities and programs, we strive to be mindful of different perspectives and experiences.

Moreover, we actively seek out opportunities to collaborate with community organizations and experts who represent diverse voices and experiences. By incorporating a variety of perspectives into our decision-making processes, we ensure that our offerings are relevant, responsive, and inclusive.

We encourage open communication, empathy, and active listening among our team members, recognizing that diversity strengthens our collective ability to innovate and serve our community.

  • Ultimately the yoga practice is meant to serve as an ongoing practice of self study. We believe in empowering individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Externally, we provide comprehensive resources, workshops, and programs designed to educate and inspire our community to lead healthier lives. Through community based events and hands-on workshops, we aim to equip individuals with practical tools and evidence-based information to support their journey. We provide guidance on the non-physical benefits of yoga including information on pranayama, yoga philosophy, ethical principles and all limbs of the yogic path.

Internally, we foster a culture of continuous learning and development among our team members. We invest in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to ensure that our staff are equipped with the latest research, best practices, and industry trends. By fostering a learning-oriented environment, we encourage innovation, collaboration, and personal growth.

  • It is proven that a lack of purpose is one of the number one causes of decline in mental health. We are dedicated to helping individuals discover and cultivate their own sense of purpose. Whether through personal coaching, workshops, or self-reflection exercises, we provide resources and support to help people identify their passions, values, and goals. We believe that when individuals are clear about their purpose, they are better equipped to make choices that promote their overall well-being and fulfillment.

Additionally, we strive to infuse purpose into everything we offer, from our yoga and meditation classes, our teacher training program, our retreats and community initiatives. We seek out partnerships and collaborations that align with our values and contribute to the greater good.

Internally, we foster a culture of purpose by providing opportunities for our team members to connect with the company's mission and values. We encourage open dialogue, creativity, and collaboration, empowering employees to contribute their unique talents and perspectives toward our shared goals.

By helping people connect with their purpose and align their actions with their values, we believe we can help create a more peaceful world.

  • The value of service (Seva in yoga philosophy) is deeply ingrained in everything we do. We believe that serving others is not just a responsibility but a privilege and an essential component of fostering well-being within ourselves and our communities.

Our commitment to service manifests through our dedication to providing exceptional care and support to our customers. We prioritize understanding their unique needs and preferences, and we go above and beyond to deliver personalized experiences that exceed expectations. Whether it's offering attentive customer support, providing expert guidance, or developing innovative solutions, we are unwavering in our dedication to helping our students feel supported on their yogic path.

Moreover, we are committed to giving back to the communities we serve. Through philanthropic initiatives, volunteer programs, and partnerships with charitable organizations, we actively contribute to initiatives that promote health, equality, and social justice. By investing in the well-being of others, we believe we can create positive change and build stronger, more resilient communities.

Commitment to service extends to our team members. We prioritize creating a supportive and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their unique talents and perspectives. We foster a culture of collaboration, recognition, and continuous improvement, ensuring that our team members have the resources and support they need to thrive personally and professionally.

Ultimately, our dedication to service is driven by a deep sense of purpose and a belief in the transformative power of compassion and empathy. We recognize that by serving others with integrity, kindness, and generosity, we can create meaningful impact and inspire positive change in the world.
